Safety plan sought after deadly crash

NEW YORK State Sen. Daniel Squadron and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer called on the city Friday to enact a pedestrian safety plan for the neighborhood.

The plan calls for better enforcement of rules limiting commercial trucks to certain routes, adding speed bumps in some areas and creating more parking space for delivery vehicles, so they don't double-park or park on the sidewalk.

A 4-year-old and a 3-year-old were killed Thursday after an unoccupied van mistakenly left in reverse plowed into a group of children. A third child was seriously hurt, and 14 others were treated for minor injuries.
