A third-alarm fire burned through the roof of a multi family home in Paterson, leaving 20 people homeless. Heavy, gas-fed flames reportedly started in the basement and shot through the entire home on 5th Avenue just after 11 p.m. last night.

It took more than three hours to put out the flames.

Officials say six families, or 20 people, living in the home were displaced.

One 52-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire may have been sparked by a boiler in the basement.
