Staten Island Zoo to hike ticket fees

February 4, 2009 11:13:51 AM PST
The zoo where a groundhog bit New York City's mayor is raising its admission prices next month. The Staten Island Zoo will charge another $1 - making prices $9 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children. Admission will still be free on Wednesdays after 2 p.m.

On Monday, Charles G. Hogg, also known as Staten Island Chuck, bit through Mayor Michael Bloomberg's glove and chomped on his finger. Bloomberg was trying to coax the animal into view with an ear of corn during a Groundhog Day event.

The zoo's funding already had been slashed before Chuck drew mayoral blood.
