Laundromat employee raped, robbed

EAST HARLEM The incident happened around 7 a.m. Tuesday near 2nd Avenue in East Harlem. The 38-year-old victim was opening the business at the time.

Police say the suspect pretended to be a customer, grabbed the woman and forced her into a back room. After a brief struggle, authorities say he forcibly raped and sodomized her. The suspect then removed an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s. He is approximately 6-foot-3 and weighs about 200 pounds. He was wearing a black/blue leather jacket with white stripes running along the sides and the back of the jacket, a white hoodie, a blue shirt under the hoodie, a gray baseball cap, blue jeans and black sneakers.

Anyone with information in regards to the identity or whereabouts of this individual is asked to call the NYPD'S Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
