Man gets prison in slaying near strip club

NEW YORK Victor Gavalo was sentenced Friday for the October 2006 shooting outside Club Fantasia. A jury convicted the 26-year-old last month of charges including second-degree murder and attempted murder.

His lawyer didn't immediately return a telephone call Friday evening.

Prosecutors say Gavalo strode up to a parked car and fired through its windows, killing 22-year-old passenger Ernesto Salgado.

Twenty-four-year-old driver Tony Morales was seriously hurt. The victims had recently left the nightclub.

The shooting came as the city cracked down on clubs after a New Jersey teenager was abducted, raped and killed after a night at a Manhattan nightspot.
