Two injured in Bronx shooting

BRONX A 40-year-old woman was shot in the right arm, and an 18-year-old was shot in the lower back, when gunfire erupted at the intersection of Dewitt Place and East Gun Hill Road just before 9 a.m.

The woman, who was waiting for a bus at the time of the shooting, appeared to be an innocent bystander.

She told detectives she did not know why she was shot.

They were both rushed to Jacobi Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect, believed to be a young man, fled the scene.

He possibly hopped on a nearby No. 5 subway train.

That prompted authorities to suspend Brooklyn-bound No. 5 trains between the East 180th Street and Eastchester Dyre Avenue stations as they searched for the suspect.

Service on the No. 5 line was suspended for nearly two hours.
