Steam poured out of the basement of an office building on Third Avenue at 51st Street in Midtown on Wednesday night. Con Ed told Eyewitness News that two steam valves broke there.

Emergency workers evacuated the 21-story building at 845 Third Avenue as a precaution.

Crews were working to isolate the leaks and get the valves fixed.

Steam was cutoff to five buildings in the area while repairs were being made.
