Man shot outside Village diner

February 16, 2009 10:35:35 AM PST
A dispute between two groups of apparent gang members ended with the shooting of one outside an all-night diner in Greenwich Village. The argument spilled out of the Cozy Soup 'n' Burger on Broadway near Astor Place just after 5:30 a.m.

32-year-old Omar Ramnarine, of the Lower East Side, was shot twice, once in the back and once in the neck.

He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Five men, believed to be gang members, fled the scene. No arrests were immediately made.

The victim, also believed to be linked to gang activity, has prior arrests.

Last June, a 27-year-old was grazed in the ankle when shots were fired outside the restaurant.

The burger joint is frequented by celebrities like Willem Dafoe and Colin Farrell.
