Alleged robbery results in deadly crash

A robbery suspect was killed and his getaway driver critically injured when their car careened into a garbage truck in Midtown Manhattan. Eyewitness News is told the suspect was fleeing the assault of a woman at West 52nd Street and Seventh Avenue just after 3 a.m.

As he jumped into a waiting red car to flee the scene, his driver reportedly collided with a garbage truck.

Police say the suspect, who was the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the getaway car was rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell in critical condition.

Two people on the garbage truck sustained minor injuries.

And the initial assault victim was in stable condition at St. Luke's Hospital.
