Flu apparently caused child's death

Health officials say it appears that the flu caused the death of a 10-year-old Long Island child. The Nassau County Health Department said Tuesday that the initial finding, Type A Influenza, was made by the medical examiner.

The state Health Department will now do tests to confirm it.

Results are expected later this week.

The child attended Northside Elementary School in Levittown.

Health officials previously had investigated viral meningitis as a possible cause.
