An investigation is underway after a police officer shot a suspect in Newark. According to very preliminary accounts, shortly after 9:30 Saturday night a Newark police officer observed a man with a firearm.

The officer attempted to subdue the suspect, who led the officer on a foot pursuit.

At some point during the pursuit, police said the suspect pointed the firearm at the officer.

The officer fired an undetermined number of rounds from his service weapon, striking the suspect in the leg.
