LI man charged with dog cruelty

MIDDLE ISLAND Law enforcers say the animals included two underweight puppies.

SPCA official Roy Gross says the dogs were seized last week from the home of 20-year-old Victor Nicholas. The chief says the animals lived in unsanitary conditions. There were feces throughout the Midland Island house.

The pit bulls were taken to a veterinarian for evaluation. Four are now at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter; a female puppy is being treated for severe dehydration and an eye infection.

Their owner is to appear in court next month. Authorities could not say whether he has a lawyer.

The case is being investigated by the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
