Woman pulled from fire in East Harlem

EAST HARLEM The 56-year-old woman was trapped in her top-floor apartment on East 108th Street just after 2:30 a.m. The firefighters, from Ladder 43, rushed up the six-story building and fought back smoke and flames.

They found the woman unconscious in the two-bedroom apartment.

She was badly burned and rushed to the burn unit at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.

She is expected to survive.

Authorities say the apartment did not have any working smoke detectors, and the fire appears to have been started by a faulty electrical cord.
