The main, at the intersection of Veterans Road at Arthur Kill Road, apparently broke just after 6:50 a.m. this morning.
The force of the main sent a virtual geyser of water shooting some 40 feet into the air.
Eyewitness News is told a Boars Head delivery truck apparently ran over the main, located on the sidewalk, causing the explosion. The truck was making a delivery to an adjacent gas station at the time of the leak.
DEP workers rushed to the scene but were not immediately able to shut off the main.
No injuries were immediately reported.
