No bias crime in Long Island deli beating

November 22, 2010 1:05:14 PM PST
Police on Long Island say it does not appear that a beating outside a deli meets the legal definition of a bias crime. The investigation continues.

Nassau County police say a man who may have been panhandling was beaten by a New York City police officer and three others. The attackers hurled racial epithets as they punched, kicked and hit the man with a baseball bat. The 52-year-old man was taken to a hospital with head injuries.

The incident took place around 8 a.m. Sunday in Roosevelt, N.Y.
