Mysterious death on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND "I just feel it was God's will and I accept it," Lourdes Mercado said.

Accept the fact, she said, that her daughter Rosemarie is now in heaven.

Still, Lourdes and Marc Mercado want and desperately need answers. Why did their 12 year old suddenly died Sunday Morning.

"Everything happened in seconds. I lost my princess and I miss her to much," Marc Mercado said.

On Sunday, Rosemarie woke up inside the family's home complaining of a headache and sore throat.

"My other daughter was complaining of a cold during the night and since they sleep together I was thinking it was a cold," Lourdes said.

No one gave it much thought, her sister Glorybeth or brother Jonathan. Lourdes gave Rosemarie some Tylenol and told her she didn't have to go to church. The rest of the family got ready.

What ended up being the only red flag came about a half hour later. In a weak cry, Rosemarie called for her mother and began loosing consciousness.

"She was very pale. I started blowing on her face to give her air," she said.

Marc dialed 911, but Rosemarie was dead. The young girl didn't have any apparent health problems, her family said.

Initial autopsy results were inconclusive. Further testing is being done as this family leans on each other and their faith.
