Construction worker falls to his death

NEW YORK Eyewitness News is told the 28-year-old worker fell from ninth floor at the building at 420 Park Avenue South just after 11 a.m. He landed on scaffolding on the first floor.

The worker was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The construction site is the future home of Gansevoort Park, a luxury hotel. Officials say the building is expected to be a 19-story glass-and-limestone hotel with 225 rooms. The top three floors, open to the public, will include bars, decks and a pool.

There have reportedly been 19 complaints to the Buildings Department about the work site over the past two years, several of them about unsafe working conditions. They have all been resolved.
