NJ sues Verizon over ads for FiOS services

NEWARK, N.J. The lawsuit filed Wednesday by the state Consumer Affairs Division says Verizon New Jersey failed to provide advertised promotional gifts when consumers signed up for FiOS service.

It claims Verizon charged consumers higher prices for service than those quoted in door-to-door solicitations and ads. It says Verizon also charged activation fees after consumers were told those costs would be waived.

State officials say they've received nearly 270 complaints.

A telephone message seeking comment from Verizon was not immediately returned.
