Robert Goldstein and his girlfriend Erlinda love to travel and have visited various locations all over the globe.
By using their timeshare, they've gone to Las Vegas, Cancun, and Florida.
So last year when Robert got an offer to attend a seminar selling discount travel, he and Erlinda made one more trip, this time to the New Jersey offices of Global Travel Solutions.
"It sounded too good to be true," Goldstein said..
That's why Robert and Erlinda put down $8,500 for a VIP membership, touting discounts on everything from airfare to accommodations to cruises.
Their main selling point, according to Goldstein, was Global Travel Solutions promised to sell the timeshare Erlinda already owned. Robert says the company promised to sell the timeshares for an estimated $15,000 to $20,000.
But, the sale never happened. So Robert asked Global Travel Solutions for a refund.
Last November, Global offered to give a partial refund, $4,000. They even put it in writing and signed it.
But, Robert says that he has not gotten his money back.
Bob and Erlinda were not alone, 7 On Your Side found more than 32 consumers have complained about Global Travel Solutions to New Jersey's Division of Consumer Affairs, altogether paying tens of thousands for nothing in return.
When 7 On Your Side went to the Montvale offices of Global Travel Solutions, we found them shuttered.
New Jersey consumer officials, says Jason Krieck owns Global Travel Solutions. His own travel pictures are all over the internet. His online profile boasts "hustler" as his school major and "getting in your pockets" as his occupation.
7 On Your Side called and sent e-mails asking the owner about the refund. Days later, we received a response.
Robert and Erlinda received their refund check.
Despite numerous calls and emails, no one from Global Travel Solutions contacted 7 On Your Side directly. New Jersey Consumer Affairs cautions consumers not to fall for high pressure sales seminar. Before paying, always read the contracts completely-both the big and small print.
