Mom, son charged with identity theft

Police on Long Island have arrested a mother and son on identity theft charges. Police say 63-year-old Tonia Cheeseman of Ridge, and her 41-year-old son, Michael Cheeseman, of Shirley, were charged with several counts of identity theft and scheme to defraud. The son was also charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say used the personal information to make various purchases.

The stolen identities included Suffolk County residents, some of them deceased, and residents in Florida where to the two had lived before moving to Suffolk County.

Authorities are still trying to locate additional victims.

The suspects are to be arraigned Tuesday in Central Islip. It was not immediately known if they had a lawyer.
