Police officers and firefighters responded to 89 Norman Road just after 1:30 a.m.
Once firefighters were able to enter the home, they found a man and woman unconscious inside.
The man, described as African American in his 30's, was pronounced at the scene a short time after discovery.
The woman was rushed to St. Barnabas Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition. Identification of the victims was withheld pending next-of-kin.
