Caroline Wimmer was found on the living room floor of her home on Greenleaf Avenue by her parents, police said.
She had not been seen since Saturday.
Neighbors described Wimmer as sweet and friendly, often seen walking her dog. They were shocked by news of her death.
There were no signs of forced entry, police said. The killer didn't even bother to close the door, investigators said.
The city medical examiner is slated to conduct an autopsy on Wimmer on Tuesday, according to a spokeswoman.
