New Jersey Assemblyman Eric Munoz dies

New Jersey Assemblyman Eric Munoz has died after being hospitalized for treatment of a heart ailment. He was 61. His death Monday was confirmed by Assembly Republican leader Alex DeCroce.

Munoz was admitted to University Hospital in Newark for surgery on Monday morning. He worked at the same hospital as a trauma surgeon and as a professor of surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

In a statement, DeCroce lauded Munoz for "the dedication and commitment (he) had for making people's lives better."

The Republican from Summit had served in the state Assembly since 2001.

A native of Colts Neck, he graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1974.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, four sons and a daughter.
