Woman found dead with cord around her neck

Police are questioning a former boyfriend
WEST BRIGHTON, N.Y. Caroline Wimmer's parents found her dead after they drove from Pennsylvania to Staten Island -- after they could not get in touch with their daughter.

Wimmer's parents found her apartment door unlocked. Her body on the floor of her West Brighton home.

Wimmer last saw her mother on Friday night. The 26-year-old was supposed to start a new job on Monday.

Police say Wimmer had been beaten beyond recognition -- it appeared she had been strangled with a hair dryer. It remained coiled around her neck.

Wimmer's cousin who lives in the same apartment complex.

"I can't believe this happened to her..I'm in shock right now. I really don't know who would do this," victim's cousin Anthony Costello said.

Friends say Wimmer had a new boyfriend. And her mother thinks Caroline may have gotten caught in love-triangle.

Neighbors say they heard women arguing inside Wimmer's apartment on Saturday.

"....I didn't hear it but my friend did. We just thought it was the dog barking -- but we let it go, we didn't even think about it," one neighbor said.

Police are not yet talking about motives, but they do believe that Wimmer knew her killer.

There were no signs of forced entry, police said. The killer didn't even bother to close the door, investigators said.

The city medical examiner is slated to conduct an autopsy on Wimmer on Tuesday, according to a spokeswoman.
