50 LI intersections getting traffic cams

April 1, 2009 5:01:37 AM PDT
The Nassau County Legislature approved a measure Tuesday night to allow the state to install "red light cameras" at 50 intersections. Lawmakers in neighboring Suffolk are scheduled to consider the issue Wednesday.

The goals are to reduce accidents and generate badly needed revenue.

Chief Deputy County Executive Marilyn Gottlieb said Nassau's camera funds would be used for social programs.
