Ruane Burth doesn't have a lot of money especially money to burn so he's holding on tight to a few hundred dollars that went up in flames Tuesday. The spectacular car fire that Ruane managed to escape but as the fire raged on he's worried about the $4,000 dollars of cold hard cash left inside.

He says most of it was his federal tax return.

The car was a loaner from his parents-who have been helping him get by since he lost his job and house went into foreclosure.

The fire started in the engine giving Ruane little time to escape-but he managed to get out and later go back for the money salvaging the serial numbers on about 400 dollars . The man who towed his car says he watched him crawling around looking for any signs of his money The fire happened just a few block from Ruane's house in Wantagh luckily, he had just dropped his kids off at school. Ruane doesn't expect to get anything back. He knows he's at fault for cashing the check and carrying around the cash. He says he just seems to have luck on his side these days:bad luck. Now he's hoping for some good.
