Authorities have seized 177 malnourished horses from the Hudson Valley farm owned by a thoroughbred breeder. State police and animal protection workers on Wednesday raided the Center Brook Horse Farm in the Greene County town of Coxsackie, 20 miles south of Albany.

Authorities say veterinarians found all the horses in varying stages of malnutrition, in addition to lacking proper care and shelters.

Officials say the horses are seized but will remain on the farm under the supervision of the Columbia Greene Humane Society.

The farm is owned by 51-year-old Ernie Paragallo. He hasn't been charged, but is scheduled to meet with officials with the state Racing and Wagering Board on April 28.

The agency suspended his owner's license in 2005 for financial instability.
