A man is dead after being shot by police during an armed standoff in the Bronx Sunday. It happened in the Soundview section.

Police say the 35-year-old Mauricio Jacques was threatening his wife and three young children inside their home. After the wife and children escaped, the man barricaded himself inside.

When police entered, they say he attacked them with a knife.

That's when he was shot and killed.

Neighbors say the man was known to have a temper and allege his children were afraid of him.

Two officers were slashed on their vests, but were not hurt.

Police say they tried non-lethal methods of subduing the suspect before he was shot.
