Kittens set on fire on Easter

MOUNT VERNON Officers and the SPCA of Westchester's Humane Law Enforcement Division responded to 14 Amsterdam Place in Mount Vernon after the Fire Department reported that they had found four kittens that had apparently been set on fire inside the drawer.

The Fire Department was responding to a 911 smoke complaint when the kittens were found. The fire was set by an unknown individual or individuals and the kittens left to die.

Detectives are seeking information from anyone who may have seen the act committed.

Anyone having knowledge of the incident is asked to contact the SPCA of Westchester at its 24 Hour Cruelty Hotline, 914-941-7797. All calls will be kept confidential.

The kittens, which are about two weeks old, are safe and recuperating.

SPCA says they've received several emails and calls from people who are interested in adopting the kittens. Officials said it will be at least five weeks before the kittens can be adopted. For the time being, they are staying with an SPCA volunteer who is an expert in bottle feeding kittens.
