A harp seal washed up off the Connecticut shore, in Fairfield. The seal was taken to Mystic Aquarium where he was treated.

He was approximately 1 year old, 50 pounds, and not in good shape due to lacerations on its belly.

A full grown harp seal can be up to 8 feet long and weight 200 pounds.

He was most likely born in the Antarctic and came all this way to Fairfield, CT.

The Marine mammal protection act (1972) protects this seal. It is illegal to touch, feed disturb, capture or kill this seal, without a federal permit.
