Police officer injured in hit and run

A Newark police officer has been struck by a hit and run driver. Investigators said the officer was conducting a motor vehicle stop at Orange Avenue and Third Street at 2:45 p.m. when he was struck.

The officer was dragged by a grey colored Dodge Durango reported stolen from East Orange, police said.

According to investigators, the vehicle fled onto to Route 280 Westbound into West Orange.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle, and fled on foot. They remained at large.

The officer was taken to UMDNJ in stable condition. His injuries were not considered life threatening.
