Dozens of people, most of them Central American immigrants with young children, are homeless after a raging fire consumed their homes. The fire was first reported on Mill Street at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, but by 8.30 p.m., the fire was still not declared under control.

No serious injuries were reported, and no residents were reported missing.

The fire spread quickly among the old woodframe homes and firefighters were unable to stop the flames from spreading thanks to strong winds.

At least four and as many as six buildings have been destroyed.

Federal ATF agents were on the scene with Paterson fire marshals, State Police investigators and county prosecutors.

The fire is considered suspicious, but not declared arson as accidental causes have not been ruled-out.
