Police-involved shooting in Bronx

BRONX Twenty-one-year-old Yancy Jiminial was shot when police encountered him inside his apartment at 461 Willis Avenue just before 1:45 a.m.

He was shot once in the right hip and taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

Police fired 12 rounds after they say Jiminial pointed a gun at them and refused to drop it.

His unlicensed .40-caliber Smith and Wesson semiautomatic handgun was recovered at the scene.

Two police officers involved in the incident were taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia for treatment of trauma.

Police has responded to the apartment after reports that Jiminial was fighting his ex-girlfriend, who was armed with a knife.

The two separated a year and a half ago after being together about three years. Jiminial allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend in 2006 and had threatened his own mother and grandmother in the past.
