Investigators said a parking attendant from Hertz was behind the wheel. The vehicle apparently went into reverse, crashed through a window and plunged.

The vehicle crashed onto the roof of an adjacent building.

The driver survived the accident.

That person was taken to the hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.

A crane will be brought in Tuesday morning at 6:00 to begin the process of removing the car.

To facilitate the positioning of the crane, East 13th Street Between 5th Ave and University Place will be closed to traffic between 6:00 and 10:00 a.m. Cars currently parked on this street must be removed by Tuesday morning at 4:00 or they will be towed.

During the operation, Hertz has agreed to vacate the top two floors of the parking structure. The NYU building at 7 East 12th Street will be closed for the day.

DOB found no significant structural damage or need for evacuations.
