Police van crashes in Brooklyn

CROWN HEIGHTS

It happened shortly before 5:00 Wednesday evening at Atlantic and Nostrand Avenues.

The police van was heading to a report of shots fired when it was hit by another van.

The impact sent police van careening out of control, taking out a light pole and crashing into a 99-cent store.

Investigators said the van belonged to housing police who were on their way back from court when they were struck.

The suspect who was driving the 1994 Chevy Astro that hit them was allegedly wanted in a report of shots fired.

The driver, 60-year-old Hezikiah White of 1299 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, assault, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to police, three officers and four civilians were injured.

The injuries were described as minor.
