Mass to be held in construction deaths

April 28, 2009 8:26:37 AM PDT
New York City construction workers and victims' families are holding a Mass for workers killed on the job. The Mass is being held for the second year in a row on Tuesday afternoon at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

It honors the 18 workers killed in New York City over the past year. The deaths are down from 26 union and nonunion laborers killed in the previous 12-month period.

Families of victims will be there. The workers killed over the past year include two who died in a May 30 crane collapse.

The ceremony is on Workers' Memorial Day, which is held annually to commemorate the 1970 Occupational Safety and Health Act.
