Dog attack victim faces years of recovery

VALHALLA, N.Y. On April 17th, Frankie was with his aunt at her house in Wappinger's Falls.

Unprovoked, the woman's pit bull turned vicious, mauling Frankie in an attack that lasted up to 20 minutes.

The 44-year old was also bitten after she threw herself on top of the boy in an attempt to shield him.

Initially, Frankie was sedated and put on a ventilator while doctors used over one-thousand stitches to close the 80 lacerations he suffered.

But Frankie faces years, perhaps decades of reconstructive surgery. The family has set up a website to help deal with the quickly mounting medical expenses.

Frankie's mother remains by her son's bedside while he starts his recovery. His uncle admits the incident has caused a rift in the family that will require healing as well.
