Man robbed while taking out trash

SADDLE BROOK Three men grabbed him, tied him up and then went into his house and robbed him.

It happened in Saddle Brook, New Jersey.

"It's creepy," one neighbor said.

Creepy indeed to wake up and find that your neighbor has been tied up and robbed. The house, on East Lanza Court, was the talk of the neighborhood.

Everyone trying to figure out what happened, and more importantly, why?

"The victim was outside his home, at which time he was approached by three males," Saddle Brook police Captain Vincent Laurentino said. "He was asked to enter his home."

Laurentino can't give out too many details, because they are still looking for the three home invaders, but he says the 75-year-old homeowner was tied up. His wife, in another room, never even knew what happened. And the home was torn apart.

Neighbors say they are concerned, and with good reason. It is a very quiet, suburban neighborhood, and the scene of the incident is just a few homes away from an elementary school. But police say there is some good news.

"We do not believe this is a random act," Laurentino said. "We are relatively confident that this particular victim was a target of three suspects."

But police won't say what the suspects got away with or how much it was worth. Neighbors say the man who lives in the home collected coins and baseball cards. Some of the coins were visible left behind on the street.

Gwen Halko lives across from the targeted house. She says she's just glad police think this was an isolated incident.

"Everybody looks out for each other, you know," she said. "It's a weird feeling."
