The Eyewitness News' Summer Savings Guide offers you ways to save money without cutting back on the fun. As one of our one-tank getaways, we took a trip to a destination the whole family can enjoy. And getting there costs less than a tank of gas.

Eyewitness News meteorologist Bill Evans drove about 80 miles from New York City up I-87 to the Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland, New York, in Ulster County.

For 51 years, folks there have been letting families experience a little bit of the Old West.

It's a sight you don't often see in Manhattan - cars stopped in a long line, waiting for horses to cross the street.

It's just one of the things you can see if you visit the Rocking Horse Ranch.

"We really offer morning-to-evening non-stop family entertainment and activities and delicious food, all included in your rate," ranch president Steven Turk said.

The main attraction is being able to get up close and personal with the horses, whether it's petting them or actually riding them.

If riding is your thing, the staff is prepared to help get you in the spirit, no matter if you are novice rider or an expert.

"I like riding horses, because it's a fun way to relax and be outside," one young girl said.

If you still can't imagine yourself saddling up, don't worry. There are plenty of other things to do on the ranch.

"The kids are never bored here," Turk said. "Whether they are in the pools, the water slides or the horses, we have nightly entertainment."

As the weather gets warmer, they are getting their award-winning grounds ready to make good on that promise, from shuffle board to the climbing wall to a ton of water sports, ranging from kayaking to paddle boating, there's something for everyone.

"That's the beauty," Turk said. "We're less than an hour and 15 minutes from the George Washington Bridge."

With rates ranging from $150 a night to $400 a night, depending on the time of the year, a fantastic restaurant and nice rooms, the all-inclusive resort is a bargain vacation for all families.
