Relatives: NY victim wanted to quit gang

May 4, 2009 11:34:20 AM PDT
Relatives say the father of a 3-year-old was struggling to get out of a street gang when he was gunned down in Harlem. The New York Post says a surveillance camera recorded the killing on Sunday of 17-year-old Cory Squire.

Police hope someone might recognize the shooter, even though the video doesn't show him clearly.

Squire's girlfriend, 18-year-old Atiya Hallman, says he was struggling to turn his back on the Bloods. She says he was training to be an electrician.

His 14-year-old sister, Allayah, also said Squires wanted to get off the streets.

But Allayah says her brother "didn't think he'd make it to 18."
