Double fatal crash in NJ

May 4, 2009 7:13:59 AM PDT
A car crashed and exploded in flames on Route 21 in Passaic, killing two people who will have to be identified by dental records. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu lost control in the northbound lanes of Route 21 near Exit 11 and crashed just before 10 p.m. last night.

The Malibu spun out, smashed into the right guardrail, then into a bridge abutment, and burst into flames.

Both the driver and the passenger were burned to death and will have to be identified by dental records.

Speed and wet road conditions are believed to be a factor in the crash.

Firefighters searched the area with thermal imaging cameras for additional victims, but found none.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on this accident to contact Passaic Sgt. Scott Nayda at 973-365-5788.
