HS senior suspended over girl contest

MONTVILLE, N.J. Mike Butrym says he was continuing a Montville High School tradition.

"May Madness" was modeled after college basketball's "March Madness." But instead of picking teams for their brackets, teenage boys chose 16 female students from each grade. Each day, they would pair off the girls and judge them on appearance. The girl with the higher rank would advance to the next round.

The 18-year-old says half the girls thought it was a joke and started a hottest boy version.

School officials learned of this year's contest when Butrym and other participants wore matching "May Madness" T-shirts.

Butrym was suspended for five days for "intimidation, harassment and insubordination."
