Wellness guru and author Kathy Freston has a new book. It's called "The Quantum Wellness Cleanse--The 21-Day Essential Guide to Healing Your Body, Mind and Spirit." She joined us along with a tv executive who lost more than 40 pounds on the program. During this 21 day cleanse, Kathy advises giving up the "Big 5 " - sugar, caffeine, gluten, alcohol, animal products.

You talk about leaning in to change - what does that mean?
The important thing is to stay positive and do as much as you can. You don't need to necessarily give up everything all at once. Just lean into it.

Giving up meat seems daunting? Is there an easier way to do it?
You can give up one animal at a time. There are also many delicious alternatives that can be found including some great plant-based, gluten-free recipes in this book.

Can someone on the go really follow this?
We have great recipes that you can create ahead of time and the best thing is that this will give you much more energy. And yes, I'm on the go and I find it easy to do.

What made you decide to go on the cleanse?
I had a crazy work lifestyle travelling all over the world - ate at different times including late night dinners. I had bad eating habits all around. My dad became ill and had no time to exercise. So, I ate a lot of meat because I thought it would give me energy, but in fact it made it worse. My mom said she didn't even recognize me anymore. A friend told me about the book and 21 of us decided to do the 21 days together.

You have done a lot of diets how is this one different?
I kept a blog and still have it. I leaned into the thinking, and leaned into the change. I felt better than I ever had before. Kathy's teachings were very much in line with my philosophy in life. I believe in non-cruelty to animals. I needed to balance my beliefs with my actions. I looked at what I could eat and not what I could not eat.

What kinds of changes have you seen?
I lost to date 40 pounds and plan to lose 20 more. It is not a diet. I call it a lifestyle. This has all happened since July 2008. I am not counting calories. I just follow a healthy plan.

How do you feel now?
I feel a lightness that is fantastic. What Kathy has to say is inspirational. I felt hopeless, but no more.
