Pilates Together at New York Sports Club

NEW YORK Pilates is a great post-pregnancy workout, because it targets the area that just went through the most - your midsection. And there's a class where you get a workout without leaving your baby behind.

In the class, you don't just listen to your body and the instructor. You listen to your little one.

"If they need to have sippy cup, binky, whatever they need, take that time and then just come back into class," trainer Jennifer Hunter said.

It's called Pilates Together at New York Sports Club. It's similar to a traditional pilates mat classes, but with the baby incorporated in creative ways, often as a weight.

"He's 24 pounds," one mother said. "So yeah, it's a workout." The 45 minutes fly by, literally (with kids in the air!).

"I don't like leaving her," another mom said. "So it gives me the opportunity to work out while she's with me."

"You get to get out with other moms and other babies, and we both enjoy that," a mom added. "And my arms are tired from lifting her, so I definitely got a workout. So are my legs."

There's a lot of cooing, and even kissing. And behind it all, the muscles are working.

"It's all about stabilizing the midsection and strengthening your core," Hunter said. "Especially with moms who just had children or carrying babies around, that's an issue. So we want to make sure they have the awareness and strength."

So you'll tone up that post-delivery or C-section belly.

By the way, dads and their babies are welcome as well. Pilates is also a good workout for men. Once a baby starts crawling, they're too old for the class. If you're interested in checking out a demo class at New York Sports Club, visit MySportsClubs.com/news/newstuff/Pilates_Together.htm.
