Funeral held for NJ soldier slain in Iraq

PATERSON More than 100 relatives, friends and supporters filled the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist church in Paterson on Saturday to honor Sgt. Christian Bueno-Galdos.

The 25-year-old was killed at a Baghdad stress clinic May 11.

He was born in Peru as the youngest of four children and became a U.S. citizen in 2005. He had moved with his family to Paterson as a 7-year-old and joined the Army out of high school.

Relatives say he couldn't wait to serve his adopted country and did so exceptionally, earning three Army Commendation Medals.

An Army sergeant finishing his third tour in Iraq has been charged in the shootings.
