A man killed when two boats collided on a New Jersey river died of drowning, an autopsy has determined. Officials say 24-year Kyle Tanis of Mahwah also sustained a skull fracture and internal injuries in Friday's night's accident on the Manasquan River.

Four friends who were in the 15-foot skiff with Tanis were injured in the collision, including two sisters who remained hospitalized Sunday in critical condition.

Meanwhile, state police were still trying to determine what caused the skiff and a 30-foot Boston Whaler to collide on the north side of the river, between Point Pleasant Beach and Brielle.

The boats were headed in separate directions at the time, though witnesses said the smaller boat moved erratically before veering into the larger vessel.

Two men aboard the Boston Whaler were not injured.
