Duo busted for same crime second time

YONKERS The two men were arrested for speeding through Westchester County, allegedly with stolen headlights in their car. The same two men were caught last week for speeding in the same spot with more headlights in their car. And they were busted by the same cops.

The suspects' Chevy Impala is off the road, and its body bears the scars of two high-speed police chases. Anthony Cruz and Eric Rivera are under arrest after police say they were caught stealing expensive headlight assemblies out of Cadillac Escalades, not once, but twice, in the span of a week..

The first incident happened last Tuesday on the southbound Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh. Police say Cruz was speeding behind the wheel and refused to pull over. The two were arrested after they crashed on Central Avenue. They were later released.

On Monday night, police say the Impala was traveling northbound on the Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers when troopers tried to pull it over. Cops called off the chase on the Saw Mill after a cruiser was hit and the suspects briefly drove against traffic.

But a sergeant monitoring the chase at headquarters recognized the description of the car. Within an hour, investigators went to the suspects' apartment in the Bronx and arrested them. The car was sitting nearby, and more headlights were found inside.

This time, the suspects are charged with a felony. And even police are left shaking their heads.
