Authorities say a 20-year-old man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a New York City man who had just graduated from an upstate college. Buffalo police announced Wednesday that 20-year-old DeMario Cordelius of Amherst was charged with second-degree murder after confessing to shooting Javon Jackson at about 3 a.m. on May 10.

The 23-year-old Bronx resident was out celebrating his graduation from the University at Buffalo the day before when he was shot on a city street.

Mayor Byron Brown says a surveillance camera near the crime scene helped detectives make the arrest.

On Monday, one of Jackson's roommates was shot and killed at an apartment complex in suburban Amherst. Police say there's no indication the cases are related.
