Bloomberg to reporter: You're a disgrace

May 28, 2009 9:46:30 PM PDT
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg called a reporter a "disgrace" for asking a question he didn't like. A New York Observer reporter on Thursday pointed out to the mayor that the economy is improving, and asked whether that cancels out Bloomberg's rationale for changing term-limits law last fall.

The billionaire mayor had the law changed so that he could run for a third term this year. His chief argument at the time was that New Yorkers needed him to stick around and protect the city from fiscal ruin.

Bloomberg snapped at the reporter that the issue had long been settled and said it was not a serious question.

As he turned to leave the podium, he looked at the reporter and said "you're a disgrace." (CLICK TO SEE VIDEO ON YOUTUBE)

The reporter, Azi Paybarah, told Eyewitness News that a mayor's spokesman later offered an apology and that it was accepted.
