NYC temples to get security grants

NEW YORK Gov. David Paterson announced Sunday the Riverdale Temple and the Riverdale Jewish Center in the Bronx will each receive $25,000 to upgrade their security systems. The funds are coming from a federal program aimed at security for nonprofit organizations.

Paterson also sent a letter to Congress urging that program get more money in fiscal year 2010.

Four men have been accused of plotting to bomb the synagogues and shoot down military airplanes with missiles.

"These two congregations stand for the best of our nation's values - tolerance, liberty and peace," Paterson said. "All New Yorkers of every faith should feel safe in their religious sanctuaries."
